In Memorium

21st December 2018

As we get older, we are reminded of our mortality with almost constant news of the passing away of someone in our life – a relative, an acquaintance, a friend, a member of the community, a parent, or even a beloved pet. Even though we are brought up knowing that life on this planet is finite, the news always brings a gasp and a fear that you never know what’s round the corner.

Life has taught me one thing though, try and make most of every second you have. There is so much one can do to contribute to society without expecting anything in return apart from the satisfaction of doing a good deed.

“Mortality is one of the greatest gifts ever bestowed. After a long and fruitful life, we are able to rest.” — Nancy Straight

Today I got the dreadful news of the passing of another beloved character in my life – We called her “RatnaMai” – aunty Ratna. An unique person who was so full of life and always willing to help anyone who crossed her path. Very conservative and strict follower of tradition, she managed a busy household, always in the kitchen cooking so many dishes and making sure everyone visiting her was fed! She was a proud mother of three sons. She took pride in telling everyone she had sons and her sons had sons! She was a good friend to Mum, sometimes her views were not to our style but nevertheless, she was loved by all. We will miss her.. RIP RatnaMai.

I heard from our mum that you started speaking fluently before you turned one. But this is such a pleasant surprise that you can pen down all your thoughts so beautifully. I am so proud of you, my dear sis.
