Lockdown diaries week 6

“Tough situations build strong people”

My initial plan was to write an account of my life in lockdown every week but after week 2, I realised I had so much to do, so much to keep myself busy that decided to give writing a miss for a couple of weeks… now here I am in week 6, and have got used to the routine in seclusion. Getting acclimatised to doing things by myself for myself.

Spring and Autumn are my favourite times of the year. Spring is time of revival, growth and beginning of new life in nature. The garden was stripped down in readiness for winter. With such unexpected good weather, meant I got a chance to spend a lot of time preparing the beds and the lawn. The constant wet weather during the winter encouraged a lot of moss on the grass which had to be scarified to make room for the grass to grow. I even managed to cut the grass in the neighbour’s garden and wished I hadn’t offered as it was such a task. There was no grass just moss!!!

The daffodils brought a lot of sunny yellow cheer at the start of the season followed by the brilliant colours of tulips. Rima had got me bulbs from Amsterdam giving the garden a very cheerful look. When you see the flowers all in bloom, it warms your heart and gives you such a good feeling and such an immense sense of achievement.

One passion I have renewed is walking. Since the lockdown, we cannot visit any of our favourite haunts like the nature reserve, St. Cyrus beach, and nature trails. I have realised that there are quiet paths through fields, and back roads which are ideal for a walk, to experience nature, hear the birds and see the different flora native to this part of the world.

The Den

Another week gone, and by the sound of it, another three more added to the lockdown. Still have to give the fence another coat of paint, have to pressure wash the decking and the driveway. weed the flower beds… again, and hopefully find new chores round the house!
